Smooth and deeply nourishing, this organic skin tallow balm blends tallow’s old school hydration with castor oil for that luxe slip, jojoba to mimic your skin’s oils, and rosehip for brightening vitamin C. Pick lavender for calm vibes or sweet orange for a zesty lift-whichever makes you smile. Slather it on, it’ll sink in fast, leaving no grease, just glowy, happy skin.
Ingredients
160g Tallow – scent free if possible
20g Jojoba oil
10g Caster oil
20g Rosehip oil
12 drops of essential oils
Method (Thermomix-friendly)
1.Sterilise Jars
Add 400ml of water to the Thermomix bowl, place the Varoma on top and place the jars and lids (only add the lids if they are metal) upside down in the Varoma and place the lid on.
Steam to sterilise: 10 minutes | 100 degrees | speed 2
Set jars aside, empty the water, and dry the mixing bowl throughly.
2. Melt the tallow
Add your measured tallow to the clean, dry Thermomix bowl.
Heat 50 degrees | 7 minutes | speed 1, until fully melted
3. Add jojoba, castor oil and rosehip oil
Once melted, add jojoba oil, rosehip oil and castor oil.
Mix: 10 seconds | speed 2, to combine.
4. Cool slightly before essential oils
Let the mixture cool for a few minutes so it’s warm but not hot (ideally below -40 degrees).
Add your chosen essential oil drops.
Mix briefly: 5 seconds | speed 2.
5. Wip for a creamier consistency
You can remove this step if you don’t want it creamy.
Insert butterfly whisk
Mix: 10 minutes | speed 3.5
5. Pour and set
Immediately pour into sterilised jars.
Seal with lids and place in the fridge.
*please note I keep mine in the fridge and use from there. I use the end of a spoon to decant so that my balm stays clean and germ free.
And here’s the thing-the chill itself tightens everything up, makes pores vanish for a sec, while that thick balm locks in the cool so you don’t just look awake, you feel it. It seals in moisture like nobody’s business-nighttime hero for chapped lips or windburned cheeks. The tallow mimics your skin’s oils so everything sinks in-deeply hydrating without that sticky feel. Plus castor keeps things soft overnight, rosehip fades old spots come morning… and if you pick orange-scented, you’ll wake up smiling.
Windy days? Rub it on before you head out: instant barrier, no stinging.
